Apolipoprotein B.
(Apo B) A protein found in LDL and VLDL particles, used to assess cardiovascular risk
What it tests: The number of cholesterol-carrying particles in your blood that can damage artery walls.
Why it is important: Increasingly considered a more accurate cardiovascular risk marker than standard LDL cholesterol, particularly for anyone with metabolic concerns. Two people with identical LDL can carry very different Apo B counts and very different risk.
